That’s what I said when my co-worker sent me pics of her baby wearing the new socks….they’re too small! Doh! They are about a good 1/2″ too small….but what’s really funny is that I finished the first sock, and right before the bind off I ripped it out to make it smaller because I thought they were too big. So…lesson here is, I don’t know jack about baby footsies.
But all is not lost! Said co-worker is pregnant so I think the socks will get worn eventually.
Here is the finished pic of the socks, for posterity, of course:
Leftover Regia Mini-Ringels from my own first pair completed not too long ago. US1 circs for Magic Loop. Turkish cast on of 16 sts for the toe, inc to 40 for the foot, short row heel, on up to a k1p1 cuff with Elizabether Zimmerman sewn bind off. Love that sock recipe!
Spinning
I have been spinning every other day or so since MD Sheep and Wool Fest. I spent a lot of time online reading about spinning and my second and third attempt turned out MUCH MUCH better than my first. What’s really making a difference is pre-drafting my fibers. I didn’t know about this for my first attempt, but there’s a noticeable difference between that and my second/third attempt. It’s my second/third combined because I plied the singles together. This plying attempt turned out better too, because the first time, I used one center-pull ball and plied with the inside and outside ends together. This time, I still used my ball winder but I put one ball on an empty toilet paper roll and another ball on a sawed off piece of PVC which was used to make my niddy-noddy. I punched holes in a small cardboard box and stuck a long knitting needle through and voila! I plied on the spindle from the two yarn sources inside the box. Here’s a comparison shot of my first yarn and my second: Not the prettiest, but still.
It’s pretty much a heavy worsted or bulky, I think, and I have absolutely no idea how much yardage is there. I haven’t set it yet though, I’ll do that this weekend.
Knitting
I’m slowly making progress on Sesame. I’m almost to the elbows on the sleeves. The whole new spinning thing is really eating up my knitting time. =)
