Some progress shots with the knitting:

This is my Catriona vest…I’m modifying the shoulders so it doesn’t end up looking linebacker-ish…just decreasing about 10 or 12 stitches around the armhole. Hopefully this works out the way I envision it.
I spent a couple hours yesterday spinning and plying this:

I went back down to the slower whorl [...]

Handspun

Finished drying, very bright and vivid colors. I used a higher flyer speed ratio this time, I think it’s a comfortable speed for me and I’ll stick with it for my next project.

Handdyed falkland: 4 oz, 270 yards, 14 wpi (about sportweight)

Handspun Scarf

Started the Bertie Scarf, using my own handspun. It’s Ruby Twist from coppermoose, spun at an average worsted weight so I’m using US7 needles. I have about 390 yards of this color. Amazingly this yarn was my first decently usable yarn and came out perfectly balanced…hard to recreate since I don’t do [...]

Slow Knitting Progress…

I have a pic of the spinning wheel that the B Man is building. He got curious one day and decided he wanted to build one. So I bought the plans, it’s the “No Lathe Saxony Style Spinning Wheel” booklet. It has been modified and it seems to be coming along.

Spinning
Finished spinning the pink/white/red roving…now I have to read up on plying. Maybe I’ll try Navajo Plying and see how that goes. I’m still working on my consistency, it’s getting better.

Sewing!
We have sewing!
Here is my take on a log cabin square. It’s 12 x 12″ and I used random fabrics that I [...]

Spinning Spining Spinning….
Lookie what I got for my birthday!! (okay, early birthday present).  I had to make this detour to The Woolery to actually sit in front of different spinning wheels and see them up-close.

I had been looking through different websites and all over the place, looking up different functions of different wheels, looking [...]

More Spinning…Again

I spun up 2 oz of this roving and have a full spindle of it. I think what I’ve decided to do is remove it to my niddy-noddy and then set the yarn as a single ply…and try to knit something with it, like a scarf. I want to see what it does [...]

More Spinning….

Lookit! =)

My third attempt with spinning. This pre-drafting thing is REALLY helping out. I don’t want to ply this because I am in love with the colors and don’t want to mangle it with my sorry plying skills. When I’ve spun enough, I’m going to remove it to a holder (been [...]
